Bad idea, Kickstarter for video games don’t work as well as it did a few years ago.
Fig would clearly be a better choice for a crowdfunding campaign. The problem by asking a price of 15$ for obtaining a game key, it’s that there’s absolutely no insurance that it will raise the number of pledgers in order to equal, nor to say bypass, the amount of money obtained thanks to a price of 25$ for fewer backers.
The creators of this game are known only by old players who played games no less than 25 years ago, meaning an eternity in video games, and thus lack an actual great name in the industry to hook the mass of “new” players who don’t know them.
Lowering the price is a bet, but I will not criticize people who don’t dare to take it considering the issues.Nevertheless, I still come with my idea of adding a multi-copy pledge, like “add 18$ for any additional digital game-key wanted beyond the pledge level” (same with 50$ for the physical box) would be beneficial to this KS campaign. Of course, 18 and 50$ are only example, it could also be 20 or 55$; it would be up to you to decide, you’ll just have to take care of making it incitative enough.
For the remaining things, will it be possible to get an alpha-screenshot or even only artwork of a non-combat scene to show people another side of the game ?
Whatever, I’m still happy to have pledged for this game and really hope it will succeed in order to allow you to make a great game and, who knows, maybe some revival of others SSI’s RPGs. 🙂
Some questions about the 65$ pledge level :
– will those digital and physical copies be 2 differents keys, or the digital will only be mean to hasten the disponibility of the game for the backers to prevent shipment delay ?
– will they be Steam keys, or drm-free using GoG or which others download platforms ?https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/537511454/seven-dragon-saga-by-tactical-simulations-interact 😉

Nice interview.
Ultimately, the most important information I’ve read in it is :
By the way I am currently working on Phantasie V. I don’t get much time to work on it so its a very slow process. If you want you can check back with me in about a year and I will let you know the status of the project.
Already one year and a half have passed since this interview, so it would be nice if we could get by any way some informations about the ongoing development.
And as for the money needed to make the game, couldn’t tsr be the editor ? Or if not, maybe a kickstarter project could help for it ? I think that’s something that’s really worth be considered. 🙂You’ll have to take the window either at the end of the month if you don’t want to lose visibility because of the Dragon’s Age 3 release, or early next year before Pillars of Eternity’s.
There’s also Torment that will be released next year, so you’ll have to be very convincing with this game to make it emerge.
But I’m confident in your success if you stick to making a spiritual successor of the mythical Pool of Radiance.Thank you for your answer, TSI team, this is a very good news to know that you still keep an eye on this. 🙂
This is truly the project n#1 I would like to see you make one day, althought I’m not sure about its commercial appealing. Maybe some Kickstarter campaign could give an hint for this, or if you gain enough money to make a game even if commercial success would be uncertain.I’ve just another question that bug me for some time :
Thinking about how WC works, with movement phase and tactical combat phases, has this game had any impact on how you designed the Gold Box games, or was there absolutely no link in your mind between those 2 series ?Oh, and as I’m here, same question I asked in the Phatasie Topic, but for The Eternal Dagger : why was it never released on PC although Wizard’s Crown was ? Was it only for pure commercial reasons ?
By the way, was the Phantasie 4 an officiel release (and thus, a true sequel) ?
I wonder because as far as I know, this game was never translated and thus be concealed to a lone country and considering how cloning was a national sport in some Asian countries 20 years ago …Otherwise, speaking of Phantasie 2, why did this game never been ported to PC, thus creating a hole in the serie as I and III were ?
