I’m glad to see you have at last decided to launch your kickstarter campaign, I hope that all the veteran gamers of the Old SSI Games will respond.
I also hope that the objective will not be too high, like asking many millions, in order to maximize the potential of success.

But if I’m writting this post before the KS campaign launch, it’s for asking about something : will it be possible to think about adding a two-pack pledge rank (of course with a light discount as an incitement compared to a “simple” 2 licenses buy), so it will be possible for people to offer one key of the game to younger player who otherwise would never pledge for this game as they don’t really know much about SSI’s RPG ?

Whatever will be your decision, good luck for tomorrow and the following days. 🙂

We have not made immediate plans to order more than 1 copy of the game. Although, this is very good feedback and the type of thing we’re likely to incorporate as an option at a later date. 🙂

    Hi TSI,

Some people are drawn in by a confident and solid pitch, others are drawn in by awesome presentation and artwork, but there are also people who would love to hear about the game design and mechanics. I was wondering, are there plans to share detailed examples and descriptions of mechanics and gameplay during the kickstarter?

I can’t wait to see the kickstarter! Best wishes.

Some questions about the 65$ pledge level :

    – will those digital and physical copies be 2 differents keys, or the digital will only be mean to hasten the disponibility of the game for the backers to prevent shipment delay ?
    – will they be Steam keys, or drm-free using GoG or which others download platforms ?

Firstly, thank you for sharing your questions any comments with us.

We’re working on a FAQ to address common questions like DRM free (yes). For Physical backers we obviously don’t want them to feel punished and face a significant delay in getting the game.

Yes, we plan a steady stream of updates, text, vlog, and some videos elaborating on our design choices, and plans.

Not happy about in game content exclusive to KS backers. Insulting idea, AND it will almost certainly be hacked almost immediately.

Apologies, Woolfe. The only exclusive we have is a cross-promo we are doing with Shroud of the Avatar. As they’ve been great to work with, and as they’d done cross-promos with Star Citizen and Underworld, we felt we should do the exchange. Also, while the Blade is distinctive and useful, it is not a game changer.

We did consider giving out other items, but see the negative reaction to this with other projects, so removed them prior to launch. And we never wanted higher tiers to just be about getting another exclusive item.

Thanks for the response. I’m glad you didn’t have more in game backer exclusive stuff. In my experience of kickstarters thus far they have met with almost total rejection by backers.

And as long as I am complaining 😉

$25 is high for the base game. Too late now. But I reckon a mark of $15 would have netted you more numbers.

Ah, the challenges of pricing. We’re looking at a large game and an initial price probably in the $40-50 range (depends on the market near release), so we felt a $25 was a reasonable discount. And it would take a large proportion more of $15 pledges to equal the $25. The price seemed to match other recent large games, but it was a hard call.

I wasn’t crazy about the in-game items either, but I can live with one sword. After the foolishness of the Underworld Ascendant KS, this is nothin’ 🙂

Makes sense, but as an example, I balked immediately at $25. Whereas I have backed several games at $15 without even thinking about it. You get less per pop, but in theory you would get more pops.

Lets face it a large proportion of your target market are those of us who were fans of the Goldboxes back in the day.

My guess is that they are going to fall into 2 main camps. People with money to burn. Or people with mortgages, children and a limited gaming budget.

You are asking a price that is hard to justify as a company with no games yet, and relying on Nostalgia as your main selling point.

Wasteland 2, which had a similar pedigree in Nostalgia for the game was $15, Torment which had an arguably higher pedigree than WL2 was $20.

Anyway, just thought I would give you my 2c, as a potential backer(I am still struggling with whether I can justify $25 at the moment, as I get paid monthly), take it as you will, and I do hope you succeed. But If you don’t I hope you consider coming back to the KS format at a later date and at a lower rate.

On the other had there are backers like myself who are extremely excited by the prospect of a new game and hopefully series of games in the future by folks that have proved their passion for creating amazing games, and will thus plop down a large sum in support for them. However, I must admit that, although I pledged for the physical box right out of the gate, I would not normally do so for teams that I was not as hopeful for. Often times I will skip a project where the digital game is more than $20 if what is shown is anything less than mind-blowing.

Frankly, in this case, I consider obtaining the physical game a way to own a piece of gaming history. Just think of how rare and coveted boxed copies of old dos games have become. Now, with games coming out in crappy plastic boxes that all look identical, these kickstarter rewards are even more valuable to serious gamers.

If TSI does create a full and deep RPG worthy of full retail price, then $25 is a steal in my book, especially for the first game of a company that may be destined for great things. Time will tell.
